Convocation

I felt lonely when- I was at my College convocation.

I was at my college convocation. People posed with their friends, taking pictures and sharing memories. I looked around, feeling a bit out of place. I had spent four years here, but I never really made close friends. Most of my classmates spoke a language I didn’t understand well. So, even though we spent all this time together, there was always a distance.

I stood alone, watching everyone else. They were taking so many photos, capturing the day with their friends. I had one photo, a quick selfie with a group I barely knew. I was only halfway in the frame.

When I walked across the stage to get my degree, the cheers and clapping felt distant. I felt proud but also strangely alone. It was like I had been here, but not part of it. I slipped the degree into my bag and quietly left, hoping this feeling would fade soon.
